A few words from our Director,
Esther Segovia
Dear friends.
My name is Esther
Segovia, also known by some
as "La Gotan". I wish to share with you
some facts about a project founded by my father, "Proyecto
Herencia De Amor" and which has changed my life
for the better. It was my father’s dream, Reverend
Miguel A.Segovia, to some day establish a sports center
which included cooking and dinning facilities so that children
of very low income could have a place to go and enjoy themselves.
My father,
who grew up in extreme poverty, had this dream of
developing two acres of land situated in the town of San
Martín, which is in the city of Mercedes, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, into a place where children of all ages could dream of someday
becoming another Maradona, Ginobili, Cañas, or why not? — Messi..
Before my father passed away he was able to build a three- wall
shed with a roof 35 meters long and 12 meters wide. Next to the
shed there is a kitchen and dinning area, also measuring 35 by
7.5 meters. Behind the shed there is a house for the caretakers,
and in the back of the property there is a very simple soccer
field. He also began a cement wall that will go around the property
as a fence.
This is a very ambitious plan; therefore it is a long-range
project, but our children deserve an opportunity to have a sports
center with a basketball court, tennis court, soccer field, and
a semi-olympic size swimming pool. Our children will have access
to this sport center at no cost to them, and at the same time,
they will be rescued from drugs and crime.
At this point in time there are volunteers who provide maintenance
to the property including my brothers and sisters. There is also
a website where information on the progress of the project can
be found for those individuals and companies who would like to
collaborate.
It is very important to my family that this dream my father
had, continues so that many needy families and their children
can benefit from it and be allowed to dream of a better future.
With the help of counselors and other adults as role models these
children will become responsible citizens to the community they
live in.
My family and I thank God for giving us an exemplary father
who dedicated 50 years of his life to the service of God and
his community.
Help us help these needy children. God will always favor those
who remember our children.
Thank you and God Bless you.
